Elf Glyphs

Finally done and hung by the whiteboard with care...

Twinky Times Six

Wow that Twinky is mischievous! She and her reindeer somehow got into my copier and made 6 copies of themselves! That's a lot of ink, Twinky!
She also brought the class some pencils, so she must be feeling much better today!

Thursday is an Elf Day

Poor Twinkie. Someone touched her yesterday and apparently her magic is waning. She's not feeling well, but we have high hopes for her to be back in action tomorrow.

Since Twinkie was out of sorts, we had to get our Elf fix some other way. The students had a great time as they practiced the skills of listening and following directions. We completed an Elf Glyph and they are just adorable!

This is one that was almost complete - more pics to come...

Math Trees

My students needed a little motivation to be extra careful with their newfound love -- regrouping.

What to do, what to do.

Enter the Math Tree.

A sheet of ornament shaped regrouping problems (adding and subtracting) is all we needed to get these trees going. Students  had one chance to complete the problems correctly and then decorate only the ornaments that had correct answers.

Those ornaments were used to decorate their trees.

Snowflake Writing

So, we'd finished the art part of this a couple days back. Cute, no?

For the writing we'd been focusing on using better choice in descriptive words. We used a variety of Thinking Maps to organize our thoughts about how snowflakes appear, feel, etc.

Then we used those Maps to take it off the map to help our writing. The writing here is fairly short compared to what we've been doing lately, but the focus was narrow and the students rocked it!

Twinkerific

Twinky made herself known today! She wrote her name in snow!

Twinky!

We had a pretty exciting morning! When we got to school we found a special visitor!

Apparently, we got a scout elf - which is so exciting because I was lucky to have one last year, too!

I found out that this elf is the cousin of our friend, Twinkle.

The class named her Twinky.

It looks like she had quite a flight from the North Pole - there's still snow on her goggles!

Somehow Twinky was able to bring in a few festive decorations for us. I'm so thankful because I haven't had a minute to do anything holiday related. Thanks, Twinky!
