Keith Haring

My fourth graders did an amazing job after my quick art lesson on Keith Haring. We used paint, construction paper and colored paper to create these works of art. Next time you're on our campus check out the hallway and I think you'll be impressed!

Magic!

Day 2 of our glue resist watercolor pumpkins. The kids did an amazing job following directions, blending colors and creating masterpieces.  A few will be on display on the 4th grade October board - but I wish I could display them all. Beautfiul, right? Since last names were visible on most you can check them out on our class Shutterfly!

Magic is happening...

Trying something new!
Fourth grade is responsible for the school bulletin board in October so we're all doing fall art! I love trying new things and I've never done resist with glue! Until now, y'all!
The kids sketched their trio of pumpkins, then - with steady hands - traced the outlines in glue.  Tomorrow, we'll have a great time using watercolors to really make these beauties pop!  In the meantime, take a peek at Day 1 of 2...

Keith Haring

I love that our school values the arts! I love that my students get to know biographies and works of important artists and get to try out techniques inspired by those artists.
Check out our Haring-inspired pieces...

Math and Art

The students had so much fun using what they know about shapes and geometry to complete these drawings:

Pilgrims and Native Americans

In our Reader's and Writer's Workshop we are researching and writing about the lives of Pilgrim and Native American children. As part of that study (and to get another grade for listening skills and following directions) we did a little 'directed draw' from First Grade Blue Skies!

The students did great! Actually, they did SO great - we just kept going! They drew a Pilgrim boy, Pilgrim girl, Native American boy, Native American girl and a turkey! We'll finish these babies up next week - just in time for them to take them home to decorate for Thanksgiving!

Our GIANT Undertaking...

So our fantastic librarian chose Jack as our Two Schools, One Book book. My class has loved our routine of reading, sketching and writing every day, but we've incorporated other activities, too.

Check out the chalk mural we are taking part in to tie Jack to the arts...

Snakes and Toads! That's amazing!

ART!

My students are really getting accustomed to the schedule and rigor of 2nd grade - this is not like 1st grade, people!

A great part of finally being in the swing of things and getting our work completed is that we had time for art! I used this awesome unit from Deep Space Sparkle and students worked hard to create their own portraits!

What a great way to tie in concepts like symmetry, and form, and demonstrate listening skills.

They really worked their little hearts out on these and I hope they keep them for years to come!

Take a look at the process...
