Last Field Trip...

What?
Last field trip? Say it isn't so! It is so.
At least with this class, as 2nd graders, it was our last together. And boy, was it a doozy.
Have you heard of 826LA?
Click here to learn about their amazing programs and field trips!
When I learned about the writing focused field trip that 826LA offers  - I was super excited! Basically, these writing superheros worked with two classes of spellbound writers-in-training to extract a group story that each student then finished on their own. At the end of the trip, each student had a bound copy of the book - the story they helped to create with an ending all their own.
Magical.

Field Trip!

We had such a great time at Pepperdine University in Malibu. We saw an excellent performance of The Prospector by the Los Angeles Opera and got to visit the museum on campus. No photography allowed during the performance but you can get a glimpse of the awesome Andy Warhol exhibit!

Such a fun, engaging day and an excellent way to integrate art into our curriculum and expose my students to different art forms!

LACMA

Each summer I stalk wait patiently for the LACMA field trip site to open. The competition is fierce for grants and I have been VERY fortunate each year to score a free field trip AND free bus for my awesome students and my fantastic colleague and her class.

#grateful

Today we went on that amazing field trip to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. I love the LACMA trip so much because the docents are simply outstanding. They are art gurus with teaching experience and the kids gain so much from the trip.

The kids loved the art, but they may have loved the space even more. Rolling down a grassy hill on a beautiful day in the city - what could be better?

Oh yeah - this is what's better - working on Common Core skills like collaborating about art and thinking critically about Hockney's depiction of LA!

An amazing day!

LACMA

I love this field trip so much! The LACMA docents are so fantastic with the kids and we always are complimented on how awesome our students are, what thoughtful questions they ask and the great connections they make! Such a great day!

Discovery Cube

Today our class went on an awesome field trip to the Discovery Cube. It's only been open for a little bit - we were their 10th field trip!

OH.MY.GOODNESS! It was great! We were the only school there and the kids had a ball! I've got to say, it was the most stress-free field trip for me. I wasn't in charge and things ran so smoothly.

If you are in the Los Angeles area, this new location in Sylmar is fantastic!

I know these kids are going to remember this day for years and years to come!

Takin' it Outside!

I love taking learning outside of the classroom!

So far this year, we've been able to do some incredible activities at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and a local farm. Having this LACMA exhibit to ourselves to do some really fun work was tremendous!

Then, we also got to enjoy a beautiful day learning about the life and growth cycle of fruits and vegetables.

My students devoured a veggie tray a couple weeks ago as a prize for complete homework (I know!) so they loved this field trip! Where have you gone this year?
